Hugo Hays trained in Farm Management and Business Management in Food and Agriculture Industries at the Royal Agricultural College, UK.
Hays was brought up on a farm in Uruguay, and has worked in farming, crop consulting, management consulting, food safety, standards development and is a capacity-building expert in the UK, Spain and Portugal. He worked in EurepGAP as Technical manager and Integrity Director from 2002-2007.
From 2008 to 2012, Hays worked in Southern Africa on a regional EU funded Sanitary and Phytosanitary project along with governments from 15 countries.
Since 2013, Hays has been with Fyffes in Costa Rica as Region Manager of Food Safety and Compliance, with global responsibility within the company for these subjects. He has been on the Global G.A.P. Board since 2015, representing producers. In his role, the department strongly supports sustainability and in particular the Pillar One Stewardship for the Planet, where they continuously search for innovative ways to progress in an environmentally intelligent way, including use of biologicals.
